  • Panel 1: Ranki, hunched over and leaning on his sword, grins and says with a sinister tone, “Fool…” Panel 2: CLOCK. Ranki adjusts his hand so he holds the sword pommel, ready to lift it. Panel 3: Tall panel. Ranki holds the sword aloft, blade tip to the sky. He smiles wickedly, saying, “Let the RAGUN do the lifting.” Panel 4: Medium shot of Thomas and Jamie. Thomas grimaces, saying, “Why you - “ But Jamie stops him, saying, “Wait.” Panel 5: Jamie’s look shifts to one of concern and confusion. Thomas notices as Jamie whispers. Their whisper carries into the next panel. Panel 6: Close up on Ranki’s hands holding the pommel of the sword. Jamie whispers, “His hand…” Indeed, Ranki’s right hand is completely black like a Mocktaw.

  • Panel 1: THUD. The sword is so heavy that Thomas is pulled down with it as it hits the ground. Panel 2: Thomas squats and struggles to lift the sword, grinding his teeth and shaking. Panel 3: Close up on Thomas’ hands. Ranki’s hand comes into the frame as he says, “I will take - “ Panel 4: “THAT.” Ranki leans in close and grins menacingly at Thomas, startling the young man. Panel 5: Wide panel. Thomas hops away with a NOPE and gets back to Jamie’s side, fists raised. Ranki chuckles, using the sword like a makeshift stick to get himself back up. The hand he uses to do so, however, is black like a Mocktaw, which Jamie notices.

  • Panel 1: Medium shot of Ranki, his hand on his hip and his head tilted all cocky as he grins and says, “Or WHAT? You will take my sword?” Panel 2: Ranki says, “You have TWO on your belt!” We see Jamie wielding one sword as the other, Mocktaw’ess Kass, is strapped on their other hip. Panel 3: Wide panel. Thomas runs up to the sword in the stump, hand outstretched. Jamie is caught off-guard. Panel 4: Close up on Ranki. He’s startled to see this.   • Three wide comic panels show a scene where a bulky, red-headed man faces two young people, his back to the viewer. Between him and the youths is a tree stump with a sword placed in it, like the sword in the stone. In the first panel, the red-headed man says, “What a surprise to see the little pirate here at Shippu Kass…” The two youths are ready to fight. The genderqueer blonde is ready to draw their sword. The brunette young man has his fists wrapped and raised for boxing. Panel 2, we zoom in medium close-up on the youths. The brunette, Thomas, whispers, “’Little Pirate’?” The blonde, Jamie, whispers back, “He doesn’t know my name. Or yours, either. Keep it that way.” In panel 3, the bulky man takes a step towards the stump with the sword. We can see the bulky man’s hand form a fist. Something supernatural and black covers his fist. Jamie draws their sword and aims it at the bulky man, shouting, “STAY RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE, RANKI!”

We see the bedroom with Basho bent to kiss Norsa on the bed. The late afternoon sun comes in through the window on the left side of the panel.

  • Panel 1: close-up on Norsa as she grins and says, “Is THAT what you think?” Panel 2: Norsa grins and wraps her arms around Basho’s head. Panel 3: Wide panel, establishing the room Basho stumbles into as Norsa gets into position around his shoulders and he tries to wrestle with her. The room is wide, with a large bed in the middle with deep red sheets. Two curtains frame the head of the bed. Panel 4: Wide panel. Basho lurches forward, the momentum swinging Norsa off and onto the bed with a WHUMP.

She’s startled at first but smiles back. Panel 3: Tall panel, Basho carries Norsa up the stairs. Norsa says, “Thank you, Ma’oor. My knees just aren’t what they used to be.” Basho asks, “What did you do while I was away?” Norsa says, “Stay in the guest quarters on the ground floor.” Panel 5: The doorway at the top of the stairs frames this shot, of Basho reaching the top of the stairs. Norsa, still in his arms, says, “We are replacing the guest mats right away. They are NOT comfortable enough.” Basho, smiling, says, “Palace life has spoiled my wild woman.”

  • Panel 1: Zoom out and see Basho and Norsa from the waist up. Norsa sighs and looks around. She says, “And our son takes after you.” Basho says, “What did he do?” Norsa replies, “He’s been disappearing more than usual.” Panel 2: The two start to walk towards the back of the hall, towards the back room. Basho says, “Well, he just ran off to follow after Daniel. Jamie and Thomas will keep an eye on those two.” “Which one was Daniel again?” Norsa asks. Basho says, “The tall, blonde archer.” Panel 3: Tall panel showing the back room. As Basho lifts the curtain away, we see multiple entries and exits. Norsa asks, “Now why would Nonny run after him?” Basho says, “Well, Daniel and Nonny both have the same leanings.” And Norsa replies, “Ah, that’s why you let them talk earlier…” Panel 4: tall panel. Basho and Norsa, back to the viewer, look up from the base of a set of stairs. The shadows cast the stairs in shadow, and at the top we see light coming from a room.
